Quantum Theory Originally a PC Game

Not much is really known about Tecmo’s cover-oriented third-person shooter Quantum Theory since it was announced last fall. We do know that it is a PS3 exclusive, but new information has come up that reveals that the game was originally in development for PC.

Speaking to Kikizo, designer Keisuke Kikuchi said: "Initially the game concept was built around this game being a PC game. So the team started working on the gameplay portion on the PC, [but] we were pretty confident that we were going to be able to display and execute what we wanted to using the power of the PS3."

The game is expected out later this year exclusively on the PS3. It is not clear if this will be a timed exclusive or not.

Tecmo and Koei Merge

Japanese publishers Tecmo and Koei have merged together to form Tecmo Koei Holdings, which will come into effect on April 1, 2009. Koei, the larger of the two, will hold three quarters of the newly combined venture, which will see 20 billion yen ($207 million) infused into it at launch.

The new company has put forward a business plan aiming for a profit of 16 billion yen ($164 million) in its fiscal year 2011. Interestingly, the two added up to a combined profit of 8.5 billion yen ($87 million) in their last fiscal year.

Tecmo is known best for publishing the Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive franchises, whereas Koei is best known for the Dynasty Warriors series.

In even more release date news, Team Ninja disclosed that Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword (DS) will come out in March 2008. The first portable entry in the series has players control the legendary ninja through the handheld’s touch screen. A downloadable demo of the game is currently available through the DS Download Stations scattered throughout retailers.

The article goes on, saying that Itagaki had the first concepts in mind and that the game might no longer see Tag Team battles. As expected, no release date was mentioned.

Tokobot Announced for PS2

Tecmo’s handheld project Tokobot will be making its way to the PS2. The company has announced Tokobot Plus: Mysteries of the Karakuri, a completely new Tokobot adventure for the aging console.

Super Swing Golf PANGYA Announced

Deviating from their Xbox-exclusiveness, Tecmo announced Super Swing Golf PANGYA for the Wii. Being released early in 2007, the game will take advantage of Wii’s unique controller and provide a newly designed, casual golf game, putting the player in control of the club and the course.

No longer will gamers be bound to play golf with their thumbs, no longer will gamers have to flush years of golf lessons down the toilet, no longer will gamers be forced to sit and be a passive observer while the onscreen character has all the fun! A revolution is at hand! Pick up the controller and swing away! The Nintendo Wii controller provides a new level of gaming interaction-sensing motion, depth, positioning and targeting dictated by the movement of the controller to act as the golf club. A back-swing sets the amount of power of the swing and the angle of the controller defines whether the ball will hook or slice. Take on the role as one of many main characters and swing away.

Super Swing Golf PANGYA has gone through a major graphical overhaul that brings this title to life in a uniquely designed fantasy world. Complete with improved character texture and molding, newly designed costumes, and beautifully rendered redesigned courses this title aims to be a hole in one!

Fans of the game will rejoice at the implementation of a single player mode. Hit the links and play through Story Mode, Free Mode, or Challenge Mode to get your skills up to par. Playing through the single player modes allows for additional characters, challenging courses, unique costumes, and new equipment to be unlocked. Take on other players in Match Play, Stroke Play, and Party Play to bury the opposition!
