DEFCON in September

Introversion Software has sent word that DEFCON, the next title from the Darwinia developer, will be released this September. The game, inspired by the 1983 cult-classic Wargames, has players assuming the role of a General hidden deep within an underground bunker, his mission being to successfully exterminate the enemy.

Cenega's E3 2006 Lineup

The E3 lineup announcements continue, this time coming from European publisher Cenega who will be present at the show with El Matador and UFO: Afterlight.

El Matador, a third person action game developed by Plastic Reality Technologies, will surround the players with the atmosphere of South America and will let them experience the excitement of Drug Enforcement Agency’s war on drugs. Given the role of a special DEA agent, codename Matador, the player will be given an uneasy task to crush a strong drug cartel operating in Colombia. With some thirty weapons to choose from and supported by the latest technologies on the field of graphics, physics, artificial intelligence and sound, this game and its story is one to look out for in the summer.

UFO: Afterlight, under development by ALTAR Games, is a third part of the UFO series. Taking place in the time of its predecessor, UFO: Aftershock, Afterlight will take us to a new environment on the planet Mars where a small group of people took refuge, but their new home won’t feel safe for long.

Presenting new graphics, new range of weapons, enemies and technologies, new environments, planet terraforming and the proven combination of global strategy and small team tactics, this new addition to the UFO series will stand out while maintaining the features and diversity Aftermath and Aftershock are enjoyed for.

Cenega will be sharing a booth with 1C Company, its owner and partner. They will be located at booth #6059 in the kentia Hall.

Army of Two Announced

Tired of being the lone soldier? EA has heard your prayers and has announced “Army of Two” where not one, but two soldiers fight it out against countless odds!

In development at EA’s boutique production house in Montreal, Canada, the action title will be released for the PS3 and Xbox 360 sometime next year. Army of Two will throw players into hot spots taken from current day headlines where one will have to utilize unique two man strategies and tactics with the AI.

No other details or media have been released yet. More is expected at E3.

Dungeons & Dragons: Tactics Announced

D&D nerds can indulge in their obsession on the go: Atari has announced Dungeons & Dragons: Tactics for the PSP, marking D&D’s arrival on the handheld scene. Utilizing the 3.5 rule-set created by Wizards of the Coast, the game will allow players to take a party of six into a wide variety of environments to experience turn-based action. In development at Kuju, D&D: Tactics will be released this Holiday season.

Players will be taking on the role of a mortal child caught between the conflicts of two competing dragons. Alignment in the game is said to be critical, as it will affect the storyline. Base character classes will include Barbarian, Bard, Cleric, Druid, Fighter Monk, Paladin, Ranger, Rogue, Sorcerer and Wizard. Five Prestige Classes are available, as are two Psionic classes, the Psion and the Psychic Warrior. Players will be able to customize their characters and store as many as their memory stick can handle.

As expected, Tactics will include a co-op mode allowing like-minded gamers go through the single-player game as a team. There will also be a Deathmatch mode that will include a series of special arenas, as well as randomly-generated and populated Dungeon Bash, allowing one to fight another with their saved parties.

The game will be playable in Atari’s booth (#4003, Petree Hell) at E3.

CDV's E3 2006 Lineup

With all publishers sending out their E3 2006 lineups, CDV (#7007, Kentia Hall) announced theirs, revealing a Panzer DS game, among others. Below is the full lineup:

War Front: Turning Point: A gripping alternate history WWII RTS focusing on new battles and a variety of secret and experimental weapons. Genre-defying graphics and a refreshing plot will keep gamers pinned to their PCs as they attempt to alter or ensure the outcome of vastly different World War II.

War Leaders: Clash of Nations: In War Leaders, gamers will assume the role of historical commanders as they attempt to lead their nations to victory in World War II through economic, diplomatic and military means. The game will balance strategic and global decision making with action-oriented, tactical combat. Players must lead their nations both on and off the battlefield, negotiating with allies while crushing those who dare oppose them.

Panzer Tactics DS: CDV’s first handheld title, Panzer Tactics DS, will also be the first World War II turn-based strategy title developed for the Nintendo DS handheld system. Combining intuitive gaming with historically-inspired battles, would-be commanders will lead their forces to victory or defeat in three exciting single-player campaigns, or compete in multiplayer games via Nintendo-WiFi Connection or wireless multiplayer. Multiplayer games will also offer a competitive ladder system to rank the best online commanders.

Heroes of Annihilated Empires: A unique combination of RTS and RPG gameplay in which players build massive armies and develop a heroic character in a rich fantasy world filled with magic, myth and monsters. Four distinct races will battle for domination using both swords and sorcery. Heroes’ new 3D engine shows the astonishing beauty of the created world, reflecting the peculiarities of various races’ territories.

DarkStar One: A space-faring action adventure title from Ascaron Entertainment where players will take on the role of a young hotshot space pilot determined to solve the mystery of his father’s untimely death. The fast paced, open ended action takes place in a dangerous universe of some 400 distinct planets, unique alien races and a fully customizable starship, the DarkStar One.

Pacific Storm: Part turn-based strategy, part RTS and part arcade-action game, Pacific Storm offers gamers a refreshing new approach to World War II action in the Pacific Theater. Players will take on the role of a senior commander as they manage resources and troop movements, and then switch to arcade mode to battle in the skies and on the seas in individual combat against an unrelenting enemy.

Rainbow Six: Vegas Unveiled by EGM

EGM April 2006 Issue CoverAffirming suspicions that the countdown on Ubi’s Rainbow Six website is indeed that of an announcement of a next-gen Rainbow Six title, 1Up put up a teaser of their own: the April issue of EGM reveals Rainbow Six: Vegas, the first next-gen game in the series.

The April issue will offer full details of the game, along with screenshots. They have put up a screenshot on their site, although no platform was mentioned for it.

Patches

On the Matrix Games website is a patch for Flashpoint, updating the tactical war game to v1.10. The update contains new features, improvements to existing eatures and other minor fixes.

Meanwhile, patches for Tycoon City: New York and Law & Order: Criminal Intent have also been issued, updating the games to v1.1.0.5 and v1.1, respectively. No details are available on the changes in the updates.
