Replay Studios Backing Out of PC Development

Various problems have caused many PC developers to back out of developing for the platform, instead opting to create games for consoles. Replay Studios joins the list, with founder Marc Moehring saying that the company will be shifting to console-only development after the completion of Velvet Assassin, the upcoming stealth action game, due to various concerns with the PC gaming industry.

“We’re planning on going to consoles more in the future,” he told Gamasutra. Moehring continued, saying that their in-house technology works on the Xbox 360, but does not work on the PS3 and that they are reluctant to hire a “whole team just for technology.” Instead, they are opting to go for readymade solutions, stating that they will be moving to Epic’s popular Unreal Engine 3 for development.

He then went on to suggest that the studio’s small workforce does not help towards success in the current PC gaming market, further adding that they are not interested in making any multiplayer games due to the fact that there are already “a lot” of good titles out there.

Gamecock Sabotaged

The WWII-based stealth-action title Sabotage has finally sabotaged a publisher – Gamecock. The upcoming Replay Studios shooter features real-life British secret agent Violet Szabo as she risks her life behind German lines during the second war. The game is expected to ship to stores on PC and Xbox 360 next Fall.

The game experience plays out through Violet’s mind as she lay prostrate in a hospital bed towards the end of the war. Gameplay takes on an air of surrealism that affects every detail, from the washed out backdrops to vivid combat sequences. Violet’s strengths lie in her hand to hand combat, clinical marksmanship and a few other surprises she’s got tucked in her sleeve.

Boll Making Video Game

GameDaily reports that infamous game director Uwe Boll is getting into game development. The article states that German developer Replay Studios is creating a game called Tunnel Rats, based on an upcoming Vietnam War movie that is not one of his trademark video game adaptations.

“Tunnel Rats is a first-person shooter set during the Vietnam War that tells the story of a young G.I. who escapes from a POW camp and journeys through a heavily fortified valley in the Cu Chi province,” said Marc Moehring Managing Director and Co-Founder, Replay Studios. “It not only depicts his actual physical path through the merciless jungle and claustrophobic, trap-ridden tunnels, but also his emotional and psychological journey as the horrors he witnesses–and participates in–slowly deprive him of his ideals, morals and sanity.”

It will tell a parallel story of different characters in a similar situation and will take place over 10 levels of jungles and tunnels based on the movie. The game will also incorporate Jessica de Rooij’s score the movie as well as additional music.

Uwe Boll is also working on another original property Seed, a horror movie.
