Kojima Wants to Develop PC, X360 Games

GamePro sat down with Hideo Kojima, the dude behind the Metal Gear series, and talk about Metal Gear Solid 4. Though Kojima dances around most of the questions, he does offer a few juicy bits. First up is the fact that he wants to develop for PC and Xbox 360:

“Well, yes, I do have strong interest in creating something for the Xbox 360. In the US and Europe, it is selling, and I think it will sell a lot this year as well. I’m a fan of Gears of War as well, it’s very interesting.

Frankly speaking, I want to create something on the PC. It’s a multi-platform [format]. I’ve been regularly studying work on the PC anyways, and I want to provide something as a world-wide platform because of the consequences with timing on the PlayStation platforms, MGS4 is actually for the PS3 only so far.”

The second bit is him talking about online plans for MGS4. Apparently, Sony is yet to outline their online plans to him:

“Well, actually, Sony has not really spoken with us about their online plans. What I have is Metal Gear Online, and I’m always thinking of how we can conduct this plan on the Sony platform.”

He also talks about next-gen space requirement, coding for PS3, weapons in MGS4, as well as this bit on the 2007 release period for the game:

“We don’t know, because the guy who said 2007 was Raiden, and not me. [laughter]”

E for All Expo Announced

E for All

Dubbed as the successor to E3, IDG World Expo has replaced the placeholder title of ‘GamePro Expo‘ with ‘E for All‘, their annual gaming convention. There was a recent content where gamers were invited to submit their name proposals; over 3000 entries were received and this was the winning entry by California resident Dante Padre.

When asked what inspired his name submission, Padre said: “This show seems to be about inviting everyone to participate; they even asked gamers to create the name. Unlike other industry-only events, this show is for everyone. Now everyone will have the opportunity to experience the excitement, the entertainment, and the early look at the industry that’s only been available to insiders before.”

As he said, the show will be open to consumers, but will also include high-profile videogame tournaments, job fair/networking opportunities, the highly acclaimed Video Games Live concert and more.

The expo is scheduled for October 18-20, 2007 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

GamePro Expo – the next E3?

This year’s biggest news was on E3: the event got downsized… literally. Since then the search for the next ‘E3’ began, but it is only now that we’ve (apparently) found the Holy Grail. Gamespot reports that IDG, a huge publications group that owns dozens of tech magazines (PC World being my favorite), will produce a new games show in Los Angeles next year.

As per the article, the event will be dubbed GamePro Expo Show and will be more like the “E3” that recent years saw: craziness, booth babes, dazzlingly expensive booths, standing in line for hours, and more. It will be held around mid-October 2007 at the LA Convention Center, the old home of E3.

The show will be endorsed by the ESA which will ensure visibility and will have trade show, consumer and game competition components. IDG is expecting to attract 30,000 attendees, marking it as a show that will possibly equal the old E3 in terms of size.

No publishers have officially announced their participation, though there have been rumors of many publishers coming on board. Further information is expected as the event’s date nears.
