ArchLord Gains New PvP Server, Prizes Being Given Away

Codemasters Online sends word that their popular subscription-free MMORPG ArchLord has opened a new hardcore PvP server to cope with increasing demand for the game.

The server will exclusively focus on PvP combat for both new and existing players alike. To celebrate the launch of “Cyripus”, the company is running a number of in-game events to challenge players. This includes various in-game leveling contests to being the actual ArchLord. Prizes will be given away, too.

Ed Relf, Director, Marketing, Codemasters Online commented, “This is a hugely significant development for ArchLord. The new server has been brought online to cope with the massively increasing demand for the game. We are still attracting tens of thousands of new players each week and with almost ¾ million players now registered, there’s never been a better time to play this great free-to-play MMO.”

First ArchLord Crowned

Word comes from Codemasters Online that the first world leader in ArchLord has been crowned after almost one year after the game commenced. During this time players have waged war across this free MMORPG for the title of the all-encompassing ruler within the game.

Ed Relf, Director of Marketing at the company said, “We are ecstatic to finally crown our very first all-ruling ArchLord! The crowning of the ArchLord marks another milestone in the games ongoing development as we look to continue to grow the game.” The game’s first all-ruling ArchLord – named Icecube – will now rule for one month, with a new challenge for the next ArchLord beginning later next month.

The game previously followed a subscription model, but had gained popularity after it switched to a free-to-play business model. This switch increased the population of the world by over 500% within a week.

ArchLord Free-to-Play

Codemasters has announced that ArchLord, starting January 4, will become a free-to-play game. It was originally planned to have a PLAYplus subscription system that was scrapped during beta testing.

Following the route Guild Wars has taken; ArchLord has to be purchased to be played, though a monthly fee will no longer be needed. For those who had already subscribed to the game, please refer to this page for details on how this will affect you. Codemasters also mentioned that the MMORPG will be fully supported, including the second update Episode II: Season of Siege.

ArchLord Launching Sans PLAYplus

Codemasters announces that Archlord will launch across Europe on October 6 sans the PLAYplus payment system, instead opting for standard MMO subscription packages.

The PLAYplus payment system allowed players to choose from a range of monthly subscription packages, each offering different levels of in-game incentives at varying price points. Following experimentation with the system within the beta test and monitoring the feedback from thousands of ArchLord community members, the PLAYplus system will not be implemented for the game’s release.

ArchLord will now launch with a standard monthly subscription of UK £8.99, US $14.99, Europe €12.99 (plus applicable taxes). The single monthly subscription will also include free credits for all players to redeem against in-game enhancements. All players will receive the same amount of credits as part of the single monthly subscription, providing a level playing field for all subscribers.

Ed Relf, Director of Marketing, Codemasters Online Gaming, commented:

“We have listened to our community and delivered. From the start of the test of the PLAYplus system, we had an open dialogue with players to monitor reactions to the system. Thanks to their feedback and continued support, we are pleased to confirm that ArchLord will now launch with a single standard subscription package.

“Here at Codemasters Online Gaming we place great importance on our open dialogue with players and our ability to react positively to their constructive feedback. We wish to thank all players that spent time testing PLAYplus and the detailed feedback they provided us, which assisted in reaching the final subscription decision.”

ArchLord Pre-order Bonus

Having announced that ArchLord will use the PlayPLUS payment scheme, Codemasters has announced the pre-order bonuses for gamers interested in the forthcoming MMORPG.

Those who pre-order the game from GameStop and EBGames will be offered an exclusive slot in the upcoming beta program, as well as one of four exclusive in-game items available at launch. The pre-order packs also contain exclusive collectable postcards, stickers and a “very limited edition” soundtrack CD containing some in-game music recorded by London Symphony Orchestra.

ArchLord Gets PlayPLUS

Codemasters has announced that ArchLord, the upcoming MMORPG from the publisher, will make use of the PlayPLUS payment system, allowing gamers to purchase subscription packages that include both game time and in-game bonus credits.

There will be three levels, with the lowest starting at $10/month; it will include a month of play as well as 1500 credits for use in the game for “initial items and enhancements,” including teleportation spells, health boosts and others. Regular in-game items will still be freely available through the in-game currency system. The other two levels are $20 and $40, with each offering 3400 and 8000 credits, respectively.

This PlayPLUS system will be integrated into the game in time for its launch in Q3 2006. However, participants of the forthcoming beta test will be able to experience the system early.
