Asura’s Wrath director addresses God of War similarity, talks about game’s design


Having seen this epic trailer for Asura’s Wrath, it’s easy to conclude that the game is going to kick as much ass as is humanly possible. There’s simply no doubt about it. But there’s one problem: we don’t know anything about the game.

This post on PlayStation Blog sheds some new light on the title, asking director Seiji Shimoda a few brief questions before revealing the title is due out next year.

Interestingly, the first question asked is about the game’s similarity to the God of War series, which Shimoda agrees and disagrees to at the same time, noting that “superficially, there are some resemblances but we’re hoping that… you’re going [to] feel that it’s something completely different.”

Referring to the epic boss fight shown in the trailer, he notes that it is “actually one of the weaker bosses” and that other boss fights are not all going to be on this scale. It may be grander, but doesn’t mean the bosses will be as big. Shimoda also talks about the leveling up nature of action games, pointing out that Asura’s Wrath is going to break the trend. He concedes, however, stating that there will be some points where the titular character can indeed power up.
